Last day in Appleton, this trip.
Well, we've about done in our welcome in Appleton. It's been more than 3 days and since guests and fish start to smell after 3 days we need to hit the road again.
On our last day here we went down by the Fox River backwaters so Cath might get to see the rare, for a northwesterner, elusive carp. My sister reported that a little while ago they had seen hundreds of them. I guess it was during the spawn. Naturally that ain't happening now so the only evidence was one, maybe an 8 pounder, dead on the shore. We wandered on down the way to the Lutz Park. It's a nice park along the river with ample opportunities to do some fishing. Not sure what's in there but there is an invasive species, the round goby, causing issues. It looks like a sculpin. There was some kind of large fish that was jumping out of the water but it was too far away to identify. Probably a carp.
Travel Notes:
After walking around for about an hour we decided it was time to call it lunch time. Besides, it was obvious that another rain storm was about to hit. We got to the car and headed into "downtown" Appleton to a southern food place my sister recommended.
It turns out to be a great find. Chicken and waffles, sausage and waffles, catfish & waffles, and even FROG legs and waffles, home smoked pulled pork and sausage and a selection of brews.I Today's photos record this lunch. Bozo out front, Bozo inside, Boz w/ my frog legs and the Big Smokie sandwich. That sausage was great. And, yes, the frog legs do taste like chicken, though chewier. Overall it was an excellent lunch. If you're looking for something unique in this area go to the Cozzy Corner Cafe next to the Performing Arts Center.
Tomorrow, off to central Illinois.
Ciao for now.
